Suanne Schmit

Suanne F. “Sue” Schmit, 84, of Fond du Lac, died Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at St. Agnes Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Jan. 31, 1938, the daughter of Nicholas and Anna Marie (Schreiner) Poull.

She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School, Port Washington High School and Marquette University.

On April 27, 1963, she married Richard Schmit, her lifelong sweetheart.

Sue had over 25 years in the hospitality industry. Sue’s career consisted of sales and catering manager at the Holiday Inn and the Retlaw Plaza Hotel.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church Choir for 20 years, the Nauti Gals Club and Altrusa. Sue also volunteered at Hospice Home of Hope and the St. Francis Home.

Sue was an active and vibrant person who loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, boating, singing, dancing, the annual family summer vacation to Eagle River and Friday happy hour with family.

She is survived by her three children, David (Tina) Schmit of Germany, Kelly (Rance) Rust and Steven (Tracy) Schmit; four grandchildren, Tyler Rust, Nicole Rust, Zachary Schmit and Ashley Schmit; two sisters, Mary Ann Wester and Teri (John) Ternes; sisters-in-law Cathy Poull and Suzanne (Robert) Richards; brother-in-law Charles Schmit; many nieces; nephews; and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents Nicholas and Anna Marie Poull, husband Richard, brother William Poull, brother-in-law Arnold Wester, sister-in-law Marilyn Schmit and her mother and father-in-law Rose and Louis Schmit.

Entombment was at the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.

Services were in the care of Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave., Fond du Lac, WI 54935.
