Stretch of NB Highway 57 to close next week

Highway 57 northbound will be closed just south of Highway K starting Monday, July 27, for an estimated one week due to a state construction project.

The $1.1 million two-phased project includes driving miniature pilings into the embankment along the highway to strengthen the slope, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Other work includes replacing concrete pavement, improving grading, storm sewer and culverts and adding new pavement markings. Work is expected to last until fall with lane and shoulder closures, but Highway 57 access will be maintained after the one week closure.

The detour route has traffic going east on Highway D, north on Highway B and west onto Highway RR to get back to 57.

Southbound traffic will not be affected during the first stage.

Local access to businesses and homes will be allowed throughout the project.

Vinton Construction Co. of Manitowoc is the primary contractor. The state is paying for 17% of the work and federal money is covering 83%, DOT Southeast Region Communications spokesman Chris Verheyen said.
