State park to host a variety of activities

Harrington Beach State Park in the Town of Belgium is holding three events this month.

• What Can You Hear in Your Backyard? for children ages 1 to 8 runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. Master naturalist Garth Ewing will lead a reading of “The Listening Walk,” followed by a nature scavenger hunt on the trails.

• Bird’s the Word will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 22. Master naturalist Bonnie Lunde will take participants through the park to spot and learn about the types of birds that thrive in diverse ecosystems such as prairies, lakes, swamps, ponds and wooded areas. People are encouraged to bring their binoculars and cameras.

• Window to the Universe will be held by the Northern Cross Science Foundation from 9 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28. People are to meet at the Puckett’s Pond picnic area before checking out the night sky through telescopes.
