Starr continues success in water for Grafton

Sharbuno stands out for Port Washington swimmers

The Grafton High School swim team took 11th place of 17 teams at Small School State at Shorewood last Saturday.

The Black Hawks scored 88 points. Port Washington took 14th with 38 points.

Edgewood won with 345. Monona Grove was second with 246 and Baraboo was third with 223.

Nick Starr had the highest individual finish for the Hawks, taking fourth of 24 swimmers in the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 4.02 seconds.

Starr was fifth in the 500 freestyle in 5:08.87.

Michael O’Connor was seventh in the 500 in 5:23.17, and he finished 11th of 36 swimmers in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.8.

The Hawks’ 400 freestyle relay team of Trevor Bodart, Andy Rose, O’Connor and Starr took ninth in 3:36.42.

The 200 medley relay team of O’Connor, Starr, Bodart and Rose was 12th in 1:50.25.

Bodart took 10th in the 100 freestyle in 53.32.

The Hawks’ 200 freestyle relay team of Braedyn King, Lance Greirar, Ian Konzen and Jackson King was 14th in 1:52.29.

For Port Washington, Alex Sharbuno took 10th in the 500 freestyle in 5:33.5 and 13th in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.85.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Wyatt Roller, Shane McConahy, Neil Tumey and Sharbuno was 12th in 3:46.36.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Chase Orvis, Peter Meier, McConahy and Mavrick Roller was 13th in 1:48.71.

Grafton’s Ben Niswonger was second in diving with 361.6 points, though diving didn’t count toward the team total. Caden Starr was sixth with 248.

Last Friday, the Hawks lost to Nicolet on the road, 106-66. Starr won the 100 butterfly in 55.3 and the 100 backstroke in 57.75.

On Jan. 17, the Hawks were edged by Cedarburg, at home, 97-87. The Hawks won seven events.

Starr won the 200 individual medley in 2:04.68 and the 100 butterfly in 54.72.

Bodart won the 100 freestyle in 54.68 and the 100 backstroke in 1:07.56.

O’Connor won the 50 freestyle in 5:36.16.

The 200 medley relay team of Gaven Depies, Starr, Bodart and O’Connor won in 1:47.63, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Bodart, O’Connor, Depies and Starr won in 3:34.63.

On Jan. 24, the Pirates on Senior Night lost to Homestead, 119-60.

Sharbuno won the only individual swim event, the 200-yard freestyle in 2:00.88.

The Pirates swept diving. Cale Theis won with 206.55 points. Garrett Friede was second with 204.95 points and Roger Schmidt was third with 170.8.

The Hawks swim Saturday in a Shorewood invite.

The North Shore Conference Diving Meet is Thursday, Jan. 31, with swimming on Saturday. Both are at West Bend.
