Silent bats send Saukville Saints to loss in Hartford

The Saukville Saints couldn’t get their offense going on July 3 in an 11-1 road loss in eight innings to the Hartford Hawks.

The Saints’ run came in the third inning. Brody Kraus singled, Chase Kroening walked and Austin Hayburn singled to load the bases. Cole Bzdawka hit an RBI sacrifice fly.

The Hawks scored three runs in the second inning on a three-run blast by Taylor Anderson.

They broke the game open with six runs in the third inning. A double, three singles and a walk made it 9-1.

The Hawks added one run in the seventh inning and another in the eighth to end the game via the 10-run mercy rule.

Luis Dupe had two hits for the Saints. Kraus, Kroening and Haburn each had one hit.

Connor Wojciechowski started and allowed nine runs, six hits and eight walks while striking out two in taking the loss.

Bzdawka allowed two runs (one earned), five hits and four walks while striking out one in 4-2/3 innings.

For the Hawks, Ben Spiers went five innings, allowing two hits and one run while whiffing four and walking two to earn the victory.

The Saints, 2-9, were to play at the Thiensville-Mequon Twins (3-5) on July 8. They host the first-place Kewaskum A’s (9-0) on Sunday, July 12.
