Sheriff honors father-son duo for helping to control garage fire

Ozaukee County Sheriff Christy Knowles last week presented commendations and citizen coins of appreciation to Randy Baures (middle) and his son Chandler (right) for helping deputies control a garage fire in the Town of Cedarburg on Saturday, Feb. 4. Randy Baures, a retired North Shore Fire Department firefighter, and Chandler Baures, a member of the Cedarburg Emergency Government Auxiliary Police, were driving past the garage on Highway 60 at 11:26 a.m., noticed smoke and stopped to help two deputies who were battling the fire with extinguishers. The Baureses, who live in the Town of Cedarburg, grabbed shovels and buckets from the garage and threw snow on the flames. Randy also shoveled burning piles of debris out of the garage. The fire was eventually extinguished by the Cedarburg Fire Department. Knowles said the actions of the Baureses were critical to limiting the spread of the fire to the house and extinguishing the blaze.
