Security tightened at Grafton High after social media threat
There was an increased police presence at Grafton High School on Tuesday, Dec. 2, after a student made a “concerning social media post on Saturday night,” Nov. 30, officials said.
In a letter sent to families Tuesday, Principal Scott Mantei stated:
“The post contained information that could be perceived as threatening in nature. ... As a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that a GHS student made a comment on social media discouraging students from coming to school on Tuesday. ”
After learning about the post, school officials and Grafton police conducted an investigation.
Police Chief Emmett Grissom said he and the school’s resource officer spoke to the male student, who said the post was made in a “joking manner.” Officials determined the school was safe for students to attend classes and after-school activities.
“All is safe and well at GHS,” Principal Scott Mantei told Ozaukee Press, but he would not comment on the age of the student or if any disciplinary action would be taken due to privacy concerns.
As a precaution, additional officers were on hand during classes and extracurricular activities Tuesday.
Grissom said the incident will be referred to the Ozaukee Juvenile System.
“Today’s incident serves as a reminder to students to not make comments that can be perceived as threatening in nature,” Mantei said.
