The Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board is asking for applications to fill an open seat.
Dan Bruhn resigned last month. He served on the board for 12 years in two stints.
Bruhn has a dental practice in Oostburg and his partner is retiring, he is helping to take care of his mother since his father died in August and he is focusing on his own health after complications from back surgery in December, he said.
“If I didn’t have so much coming at me this year, I would not be stepping down,” he said.
“I’m stepping down because I needed to prioritize all the challenges going on in my life right now.”
The board is asking letters of interest be sent to the district office at 321 N. Second St., Cedar Grove, WI 53013, or emailed to Supt. Chad Brakke at cbrakke@cgbrockets.com by May 5.
Candidates are also asked to submit a letter of introduction to the board.
Bruhn’s term is up in 2024, when the appointed member would be up for election.
The last time the board makeup changed was in 2015, when Bruhn, Kurt Kraus and Lori Gruell came on.
“It’s been an eight-year run of board stability,” board president Chad Hoopman said.
“Dan has a great business mind and was quick with the financials during those discussions.”
Bruhn also regularly served as the board’s delegate to the Wisconsin Association of School Boards that casts advisory votes to the state Legislature on educational issues.
The board’s other change came as the result of this month’s general election. Newcomer Eric Meinnert, 35, beat Aileen Dahlke, 64, who has served on the board for 23 years, the longest current tenure.
