Schedules in progress
Conference meetings were scheduled for this week to continue trying to hammer out fall sports schedules.
The WIAA Board of Control is scheduled to meet on Friday, Aug. 14, presumably to determine the length of the football season.
A couple of weeks ago, the WIAA announced changes to the fall sports schedule due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Practice may begin Aug. 17 for boys’ and girls’ cross country, girls’ golf, girls’ swimming and girls’ tennis. That’s right on time for cross country and about a week late for the other sports.
Practice may begin Sept. 7 for football, boys’ soccer and boys’ and girls’ volleyball. That means the first Friday night football game would be Sept. 25, given the 14-day practice requirement. Both non-conference games are eliminated.
Port Washington High School Athletic Director Nate Hinze was to meet with East Central Conference officials for football on Wednesday, while the North Shore Conference was to discuss sports on Thursday.
Grafton Athletic Director Kevin Moore said he is in the same position as the Black Hawks move to the Woodland Conference for football and stay in the North Shore for other sports.
Cedar Grove-Belgium Athletic Director Scott Parsons and Ozaukee Athletic Director Andy McKee were to meet with Big East Conference officials on Wednesday.
Parsons said two conference volleyball and soccer games that were scheduled for early September are slated to be moved to later in the season.
The Big East, he said, is suspending the sale of season passes at all of its schools due to the coronavirus’ potential limits on the number of fans attending games.
