Saukville Saints start Rock River League season with loss to Cedarburg

The Saukville Saints lost to the Cedarburg Mercs in Cedarburg. 9-2, in their Rock River League season opener on Sunday.
The Saints started the scoring in the first inning on a Joey Pettit triple and later coming home on a Mike Pruefer sac fly.
Cedarburg took the lead in the fourth inning with three runs on two hits and two Saints’ errors.
The Mercs scored three runs in the fifth on back-to-back triples by Troy White and Taylor Piel. They added three more in the sixth to put them up 9-1.
Cedarburg’s Grant Steinke was the winning pitcher and had three hits. Mercs Nick Boehnlein and Troy White also had three hits.
For the Saints, Tom Hartwick allowed nine runs (six earned) and 14 hits in six innings to take the loss. Pettit allowed two hits and whiffed four in two innings.
The Saints next game is Sunday, May 23, in Saukville against Hustisford.
