Saukville library is looking for inspiration from books for wall

The Oscar Grady Library in Saukville is asking readers to share what they find inspiring in books to create an art wall as part of its Book to Art Community Campaign in March.

People can share their favorite book quotes at www.oscargradylibrary.org/about/book-to-art-community-campaign/. The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, March 31.

The quotes that will be used for the wall will be selected in April and May. The wall will be designed between June and September and installed at the library by the end of the year.

The library also has a full calendar of programs in March, which for adults includes gentle chair yoga at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, March 4 and 18.

Library Director Emily Laws will lead participants through 30 minutes of relaxing chair stretches and deep breathing using the Down Dog app on the library’s big screen.

Instructed gentle chair yoga with Anita Odekirk will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays, March 11 and 25.

A certified instructor, Odekirk will lead participants through one-hour slow-flow Vinyasa sessions, helping them to move mindfully from posture to posture while connecting breathing with movement with the support of a chair. No yoga experience is needed. Participants must sign a waiver.

The Morning Fiction Book Club will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, March. 5, to discuss “The Death of Mrs. Westaway” by Ruth Ware. Copies of the book are available for check out at the library.

The Fiber Arts Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, to work on individual projects in a group environment. Participants should bring their own projects to work on. There is no instructor, but the group offers an opportunity to share ideas, tips and inspiration.

A Spring Renewal Poetry Workshop will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 13.

Led by Madeleine Wattenberg, assistant professor of writing at Lakeland University, the workshop will help writers of all levels explore the themes of growth, transformation and fresh beginnings through guided writing exercises and discussion. The event will conclude with an open mic session that will allow participants to share their work.

At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, the Evening Nonfiction Book Club will meet to discuss “Rough Sleepers” by Tracy Kidder. Copies of the book are available for check out at the library.

The Love and Lore Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, to discuss “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon. Copies of the book are available for check out at the library.

This patron-hosted group is for book lovers in their 20s looking for conversation, connections and captivating reads.

Library programs for teenagers will include a Nintendo Switch 2 Tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21.

The library has eight Joy-Cons that allow teams to compete in their favorite multiplayer games. The player with the most points at the end of the session will be crowned champion.

The program is suitable for players ages 12 to 18.

For children, spring storytimes will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays from March 17 to April 28.

The sessions, which are designed for children 2 to 5 years old, include not only stories but songs and activities and explore a new theme each week. Registration is not required.

The after-school Lego Club meets at 3:45 p.m. Wednesdays through April 29.

The club gives children in kindergarten through fifth grade the opportunity to use the library’s blocks to make creations that may be displayed at the library for all to see.

The STEM Club for children in first through fifth grades will present Tangram Brain Busters at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, March 12.

Using five triangles, one square and one parallelogram, participants will tackle the challenge of the tangram, a 200-year-old puzzle that makes geometry seem like a game.

The STEM Club meets monthly and allows children to explore the principles of science, technology, engineering and math through experiments and lessons led by library staff members and guest experts.

A two-part Art Sparks program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 19 and March 26.

Children will create paper mache pizza slices on March 19 and paint them on March 26. Attendance on both days is required.

Spring break family bingo will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 30.

The whole family is invited to the friendly competition where winners go home with books.
