Saukville, Grafton sign agreement for inspection services
The villages of Saukville and Grafton have entered into a five-year agreement for Grafton to provide building inspection services to Saukville.
The five-year deal replaces a two-year agreement, with the longer arrangement being necessary for the two municipalities to invest in new software, according to documents.
The Grafton building inspector will be responsible for making sure structures comply with building codes but not for fence permits, planning, floodplain enforcement and fire-alarm or sprinkler inspections.
Under the new agreement, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2020, and runs through Dec. 31, 2024, Saukville will pay Grafton $600 per month plus 60% of the building, plumbing, electrical and HVAC permit fees collected.
Saukville paid $500 per month under the previous agreement.
In addition, the inspector will be paid $65 per hour when required to attend Saukville meetings or to testify in court hearings, the same rate as the previous contract.
The municipalities will also share in the cost of updating the permitting software and for related licensing fees. Saukville officials estimate that total cost to the village will be about $12,700.
