Sara DeBlaey

 

Sara M. DeBlaey, 93, of Cedar Grove, died of complications of pneumonia and congestive heart failure Thursday, Nov. 1, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. DeBlaey was born in Sheboygan on Sept. 10, 1925, to John and Mary Vandewege Dirkse. She attended Harmony Grade School.

On Oct. 16, 1943, she married Stanley DeBlaey.

Her family said she was an active member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg, where she was involved in the Eunice Society and helping in the nursery. She was also active with the Oostburg Christian School Circle.

Mrs. DeBlaey enjoyed cooking, sewing, motorcycle riding and doll making.

“All of her grandchildren had a doll made by her,” her daughter Debra Stapelkamp said. “She was the happiest when she was helping others and spending time with her family.”

Mrs. DeBlaey is survived by her husband Stanley of Cedar Grove; children Sandra TeStroete of Cedar Grove, Shirley Tyler of Colorado Springs, Colo., Debra (Richard) Stapelkamp of Oostburg, Mike (Kay) of Greenwood, S.C., Wayne (Deborah) of Oostburg, Glen (Wendy) of West Bend and Scott (Terri) of De Pere; grandchildren Jeff, Tom, Allison, Jan, Andrew, David, Dennis, Kevin, Gail, Jacqueline, Randy, Alicia, Danielle, and William; 25 great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Yvonne Hoogwerf of Tucson, Ariz., and Lorraine DeBlaey of Sheboygan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter; sisters Delia “Nok” DenBoer and Joyce Munnik; brothers Jacob Dirkse and John Dirkse; son-in-law Bradford Tyler; brothers-in-law Peter DenBoer and Ed Munnik; and sisters-in-law Corrine Dirkse and Elayne Dirkse.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at First Christian Reformed Church in Oostburg. The Rev. Drew Zylstra officiated.

Interment was at Hartman Cemetery in Oostburg.

Memorials to Oostburg Christian School and the nursery at First Christian Reformed Church are suggested.

Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg handled the arrangements.
