Sale of county parcels to be used by DOT for expansion of I-43

Ozaukee County has received $9,000 from the sale of two small parcels that will be used to expand lanes along I-43 in coming months. 

A .2-acre lot is located between the freeway and warehouses north of Falls Road in Grafton. The other, a half-acre lot, is between the interstate and the Park and Ride north of East Pioneer Road in Grafton. 

An analysis by the county’s Public Works Department found that there was no loss in functionality to the Park and Ride, nor was there any loss in the sale of the Grafton lot. 

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will use the lots to expand I-43 and add lanes beginning this fall. 

The project, which will continue through 2024, will widen the 14-mile stretch of I-43 from Highway 60 in Grafton to Silver Spring Road in Milwaukee County from four lanes to six lanes, improve five interchanges and create a new interchange at Highland Road in Mequon

When approving the sale, the County Board directed the $9,000 to be kept in the county Highway Enterprise fund and be used for future highway project use.
