Saints lose score fest to the Oaks

Scoring in six different innings and slamming 16 hits helped the visiting Oakfield Oaks top the Saukville Saints, 14-7, at Dickmann Field on Sunday.

The Oaks broke the ice with five runs in the third inning, the most any team scored in one frame in the game.

The Saints answered with a pair in their half of the fifth. Nick Mueller singled, Steve Dickmann walked and Jimmy D’Angelo smacked a double to plate one run. Ben Kleist’s infield out scored another.

Down, 10-2, in the seventh, the Saints cut the Oaks’ lead in half after two outs and nobody on. Mueller walked, Dickmann singled and D’Angelo walked.

Taylor Devenport singled to score one run and Kleist singled to plate another. A double by Dustin Kesner scored two more.

But the Oaks kept scoring. They added two runs each in the eighth and ninth inning to pull away.

The Saints scored one run in the ninth. Devenport singled, advanced on a passed ball and scored on Kleist’s single.

Kleist had three hits and Devenport and Kesner had two each.

For the Oaks, Hunter Berry, Adam Ryan and Keegan Madigan had three hits  each.

Tom Hartwick started for the Saints and went five-plus innings, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits, walking two and whiffing one. He took the loss.

Andrew Biertzer allowed two earned runs on two hits, walked six and struck out five in three innings. Cade Fransen pitched one inning and allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit, walking three and whiffing one.

For the Oaks, Keegan Magidan allowed two earned runs in six innings, along with five hits. He struck out seven and walked one. Adam Ryan gave up five earned runs and six hits, walking four and whiffing two, in three innings.
The Oaks improved to 4-5 and the Saints went to 1-8 in the Rock River League.
The Saints host the Kewaskum A’s, 6-2 and tied with Brownsville for first place, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and play at Oakfield on 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
