Saints blasted by division-leading Kewaskum A’s
The Saukville Saints did just enough to play a full nine-inning game against the first-place Kewaskum A’s in Saukville on Sunday.
The A’s six runs in the ninth inning made the final 21-6.
The Saints scored two runs in each inning from the sixth through eighth innings.
In the sixth, Ryan Leifer walked and stole second. Zander Goines knocked him in with a double. Brian Hirschinger had an RBI single.
In the seventh, Chase Verbanec doubled, then scored on a Leifer single. Two walks and a wild pitch brought in the second run.
Leifer had a two-RBI single in the eighth after walks to Verbanec, Steve Dickmann and Nathan Huntley.
The A’s put up crooked numbers in all five innings they scored, plating four runs each inning in the first, fourth and sixth, three in the eighth and six in the ninth. They had 19 hits.
Hirschinger and Leifer each had two hits.
Connor Wojciechowski started and allowed 12 runs (eight earned) and 12 hits, walking eight and striking out four. Goines allowed nine runs (five earned) and seven hits, walking five and striking out four.
The Saints went to 2-9. The A’s are 10-0.
The Saints play at the Oakfield Oaks (7-5) at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 18, and host the Brownsville 49ers (5-6) at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 19.
