Rudolph “Rudy” Scharnweber

Rudolph “Rudy” Scharnweber of Port Washington, Wis., passed away peacefully with family at his side at Aurora Hospital in Grafton, Wis., on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the age of 80.

He was born the son of Rudolph and Minnie (nee Geib) Scharnweber on Dec. 31, 1942, in Monroe, Wis.

He married Janet Swanson in his parents’ living room in Monroe on Sept. 3, 1966, and together they had two children.

After graduating from Monroe High School, Rudy worked at The Swiss Colony.

He was drafted in 1965 and served in the Army as an infantryman, completing one tour of combat duty in Vietnam.

Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Janet.

Rudy worked in the printing industry both in Whitewater, Wis., and later in Cedarburg, Wis., when he and his family moved to Port Washington in 1976.

Rudy was a huge Wisconsin sports fan, especially following the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Favorite pastimes included playing cribbage daily with his friends and watching old movies, especially those with John Wayne, his hero.

Rudy was a member of the VFW Post 5373 and American Legion Post 82.

Rudy will remain in the hearts of his wife of 56 years, Janet, his children Rudolph “Paul” (Sheri) Scharnweber, and Laura (Stu Hopfensperger) Scharnweber and grandchildren Nathan (Jen) Scharnweber, Lukas Michels, Dylan Scharnweber, Taylor Snider and Timm Snider.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Baumle.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
