Robert J. Neitzer

Robert J. Neitzer, 81, of Wabeno, Wis., passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wis.  

Robert was born April 6, 1939, in Carter, Wis., the son of Martin and Bernice (Sherrick) Neitzer.  

He was united in marriage on May 9, 1959, to Betty Downey in Dillion, S.C.  

He served in the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. After leaving the Army, he returned to Wisconsin to raise his family.

Robert was a loving husband, gracious father and a special grandfather. He was a friend to many and the kind of person who took many others under his wing. He was a true outdoors man enjoying hunting, fishing and just being out in the woods.  

Bob and Betty enjoyed traveling together, country music, happy hour stops and spending time with family and friends.   

Surviving Robert are his wife of 62 years Betty Neitzer; daughters Donna (Scott) Allen of Saukville and Annette Neitzer of Carter; sons Robert Jay (Cherie) Neitzer of Birnamwood and Kevin Neitzer of Carter; grandchildren Justin Baehring, Jacob Neitzer, Brandon Allen, Nathan Hilton, Ashley (Tony) Werner, Allison (Marcus) Lackovic, Robert W. Neitzer, Mikayla Hilton, Jaymie Neitzer, Jared Neitzer and Hailey Neitzer; great-grandchildren Lincoln and Oliver Werner and Elliot Lackovic; sisters Rosemary of Yadro, Ill., Vera Comerford of  Fond-du-lac; Nancy Eldred of Menasha, Jean (Jeff) Heim of Kaukauna and Beverly (Scott) Schultz of Appleton; and brothers Richard (Kathy) Neitzer of Carter and David Neitzer of Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Bernice Neitzer; brother George Neitzer; and brothers-in-law Bob Yadro, Tom Comerford and Frank Eldred. Also preceding him in death were his parents-in-law William and Nora Downey and all 16 of his wife’s siblings.

Services will be held on Friday, March 5, 2021, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Townsend, Wis., with Pastor Dave Karolus and Pastor Richard Kelm officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until service at the church.
