The Random Lake/Ozaukee High School boys’ soccer team had its chances to tie its playoff game at University School of Milwaukee last Thursday, but the Wildcats wouldn’t budge in a 2-1 win.

RLO’s Max Klaus cut the deficit to one with a penalty kick in the 67th minute.

“You could actually see the momentum shift and RLO was putting a lot of pressure on the USM defending third. We had some really nice attacks and opportunities with corners and free kicks to tie the score back up but just couldn’t put that finishing touch on it,” coach Matt Wilson said.

RLO had adjusted at halftime to the Wildcats’ physical play.

“I couldn’t have asked for these boys to show up more than they did in this game. Sure, we didn’t win but they made USM earn the victory,” Wilson said. “Their breakdown chant is ‘family’ and that was on full display all game, I feel like that had a lot to do with why they competed the way they did in that game and all season.”

RLO finished 10-8-1, the first time above .500 in the co-op program.

Shorthanded CG-Belgium gets blanked

Cedar Grove-Belgium lost its playoff game at Racine St. Catherine’s, 7-0, last Thursday.

“Our boys fought hard but half of the starters were battling either illness or injury,” coach John Krechchel said.

Myles Posthuma had 20 saves.

“He kept us competitive and proved his courage as a freshman who hadn’t played goalie before this year,” Krechel said.

The Rockets finished 4-13.
