Richard A. Krug

Richard A. Krug, 76, died at his Port Washington home on Friday, March 9.  

Mr. Krug was born in Milwaukee on March 12, 1941, to Arthur and Mary Koehler Krug. He attended local schools and graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1960.  

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1963. Afterwards, he worked as an electrician for the former Wisconsin Electric Power Co., now We Energies, at the Port Washington plant. He retired in 2003 after 40 years.

On Nov. 14, 1970, Mr. Krug married Patricia Wellenstein Binsfeld.

According to his family, Mr. Krug enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and inland lakes in northern Wisconsin, as well as canoeing, camping and hunting. He frequented rummage sales, flea markets and St. Vincent de Paul stores, hoping to find a special treasure to bring home.

He spent most mornings at the McDonald’s near his home, where he enjoyed coffee and breakfast with a group of friends.

Mr. Krug is survived by his wife Patricia of Port Washington; children Charlene Binsfeld of Cascade, Michele “Mim” (Harold) Haas of Cascade, John (Vicki) Binsfeld of Ripon, Chad Binsfeld of Cascade and Cindy (Brent) Groothousen of West Bend.

He is further survived by grandchildren Carla, Shawn, Kayla, Kelsey, Olivia, Shauna, Melissa, Cory, Connor and Caden; and three great-grandchildren.  

Mr. Krug was preceded in death by daughter Jody George and grandson Joshua Haas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Peter of Alcantera Catholic Church in Port Washington, followed by military honors. Father Patrick Wendt will officiate.

Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. until the service.

Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington is handling the arrangements.
