Richard G. “Lefty” Fowler

Richard G. “Lefty” Fowler, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, at Harbor Campus in Port Washington, where he had resided for the past five months. He was surrounded by his family and friends.
Lefty was born in Port Washington, Wis., on July 2, 1940, to James and Lydia (nee Mueller) Fowler.
A member of the Port Washington High School Class of 1958, he proudly went on to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1959 and completing six years of service.
On June 26, 1987, he married his loving wife Diane Bischof.
For more than 30 years, Lefty taught physical education at Grafton High School, where he also coached football and track.
After retiring from teaching, he continued to give back to the community as part of the grounds crew at Riveredge Nature Center in Newburg. He was especially proud of his longtime involvement with the Fredonia Lions Club and spent many years helping organize the Frebeka 5 Fun Run.
Lefty enjoyed cheering on the Wisconsin Badgers, golfing and playing softball. A devoted dog lover, he delighted in spoiling the many pets who shared his home over the years. He loved spending time outdoors, tending to the yard and making memories at the family cottage in Winneconne. The music of Bob Marley was a favorite. It brought him back to the many international trips he took with Diane and their family. Above all, Lefty treasured time with his grandchildren.
Well known throughout the community, he had a gift for friendship, and it was a family joke that wherever Lefty went, someone would recognize him and spark a catch-up conversation. His kindness, generosity and warm presence were felt by all who knew him.
Lefty is survived by his wife Diane, his stepsons Stephen (Bevin) Cowen and Ryan (Jodi) Cowen and his grandchildren Courtney and Connor Cowen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother James Fowler.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025, at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington. The Rev. James Schleif will preside. The family will greet visitors from noon until the service. Military honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Wisconsin Honor Flight or Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus are suggested.
Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Harbor Cove for their loving care and dedication to Lefty.
