Richard C. “Dick” Gabriel

Richard C. “Dick” Gabriel of Cedarburg, Wis., passed away peacefully on Feb. 1, 2024, at the age of 90.
He was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Anton J. and Esther G. (Wegner) Gabriel. Dick was the first child born in the nation in 1934.
He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
Dick worked in many fields and most notably owned Gabriel’s New London Floral with his wife Mary.
He was a member of the New London Rotary Club, New London School Board and St. Francis Borgia Catholic Parish in Cedarburg.
Dick enjoyed his grandchildren, choral singing, hunting, cycling and doing handyman projects.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Esther, brother Jim and sister Ginny (Mayer).
He is survived by his brother John, wife Mary (Knutson) Gabriel, son Rod (Kim) Gabriel, daughter Sara (Tom) Brand and five grandchildren, Marisa Brand, Matthew Brand, Michael Brand, Haley Gabriel and Jillian Gabriel.
A funeral Mass to be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 11, at St. Francis Borgia North Catholic Church, 1375 Covered Bridge Rd., Cedarburg. A reception will immediately follow in the church hall.
