Recreating classic art

Cedar Grove-Belgium High School art teacher Don Urness said students in his Drawing I class “have a real chemistry about them” and were sad they couldn’t finish the school year in person, but they were excited to complete a new project. Urness asked his Drawing I and II students to recreate a famous painting and write a two-page critique of the painting and the artist. “They were so excited that I actually received some of the images before the due date. As I expected, they came up with some good ones,” Urness said. “I am not sure how many of these assignments will make the cut once we get back into the brick and mortar, but for now it is making online teaching fun.” Lydia Lavey (top photo) used Tucker her dog to recreate “Lady with an Ermine” by Leonardo da Vinci.
