Records fall in Big East relays
The Ozaukee High School girls’ track and field team came within a half point of winning the Big East Conference Relays in Random Lake on April 23 and rewrote the record book in the process.
The Warriors’ 800 relay team of Ashlee Mueller, Brianna Bustamante, Delanie McFadden and Becca Schauer broke a 29-year-old school record and a conference relays record with a time of 1 minute, 49.76 seconds.
The 400 relay team of Brynn Meyer, Allison Stahl, McFadden and Schauer broke the conference relay record with a 53.81.
The Warriors scored 57.49 points, finishing just behind Hilbert’s 57.94. Manitowoc Lutheran scored 57.
“We only had 12 girls compete, and we competed very well against a strong conference. Our girls came ready to prove themselves to some worthy competition and did just that,” coach Andrew Pfeuffer said.
The Warriors won three other events. The 1,600 relay team of Mueller, Stahl, Bustamante and Schauer was first in 4:30.36. The 3,200 relay team of Mueller, Ally Clark, Greta Klas and Kelley Large won in 10:52.94. The distance medley relay team of Clark, Sarah Nehls, Klas and Large won in 14:05.22.
The long jump relay team tied for third. McFadden was first with a leap of 14 feet, 9 inches. Meyer was eighth wth 13-10 and Hannah Bustamante was 24th with an 11-8.
Cedar Grove-Belgium’s girls scored 16 points to take 12th of 13 teams.
The 3,200 relay team of Lyndsay Sass, Greta Beernink, Grace Voskuil and Karen Ibarra was second in 11:01.49. The distance medley relay team of Sass, Voskuil, Beernink and Ibarra was second in 14:09.73.
The Warrior boys scored 14.98 points for 12th of 13 teams, and the Rockets were last with 10.
The Rockets’ distance medley relay team of Bryce Ketterhagen, Elliot Depies, Quinn Hoopman and Logan Ketterhagen took third in 11:46.92.
The Warriors had two fifth places: the 3,200 relay team of Matt Baldwin, Hayden Rice, Calvin McKee and Sam Schubert, 9:06.47; and the distance medley relay team of McKee, Josh Behling, Tyler Mueller and Rice, 12:06.99.
“We continue to make positive strides forward, and our boys are getting valuable experience against some great competition,” Pfeuffer said.
Warrior girls take third in Glenn Funk Invite
McFadden won two of the Warriors’ six event victories at the Glenn Funk Invite in Kohler last Friday.
The Warriors scored 115 points for third place of eight teams, behind Living Word Lutheran’s 166 and Sheboygan Lutheran’s 136. The Rockets took fifth with 41 points.
McFadden won the 100 in 13.83 and the 200 in 26.33.
Mueller won the 800 in 2:34.92. Large won the 3,200 in 12:36.78 and Hannah Bustamante won the high jump with a 4-8.
The 3,200 relay team of Mueller, Klas, Amy Hoffmann and Large won in 10:35.48.
Brianna Bustamante was second in the high jump with a 4-6.
The 1,600 relay team of Brianna Bustamante, Stahl, Klas and Hoffmann was second in 4:34.47.
The 400 relay team of Meyer, Stahl, Mueller and Brianna Bustamante was third in 58.59.
Brynn Meyer was third in the triple jump with a 32-.05 and fourth in long jump with a 14-11.5.
Sarah Nehls was third in the 300 hurdles in 54.95.
Clark was fourth in the 1,600 in 6:15.77.
Adeline Utecht was fifth in the shot put with a 28-7 and fifth in discus with an 83-4.
“After a great outing at conference relays on Tuesday, our girls came back ready to go at the Glenn Funk Invite,” Pfeuffer said.
“Similar to the boys team, we are starting to figure out truly competing and pushing our limits. We are in a tough part of training currently and they are performing well which should hopefully lead to some great performances at the end of the season when we start to taper our training back.”
For the Rockets, Beernink was second in the 400 in 1:09.99. Ibarra was second in the 800 in 2:34.96.
The 3,200 relay team of Sass, Beernink, Voskuil and Ibarra was second in 10:58.66.
The 1,600 relay team of Voskuil, Sass, Beernink and Ibarra was third in 4:39.18.
Voskuil was fourth in the 800 in 2:51.36. Sass was fifth in the 1,600 in 6:18.35.
The Rocket boys took fourth place with 62 points. Kohler had 188. Living Word had 136 and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah had 80. Ozaukee scored 38 for sixth place of eight teams.
Rocket A.J. Schaefer was second in the 110 hurdles in 18.19, third in long jump with a 19-7.25 and fourth in the 200 in 25.26.
Logan Ketterhagen was second in the 800 in 2:13.2 and third in the 1,600 in 5:03.09.
The 3,200 relay team of Depies, Ben Fleuchaus and Bryce and Logan Ketterhagen was second in 8:53.7.
Owen Williams was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 48.54.
Quinn Hoopman was fifth in the 3,200 in 10:49.33. The 1,600 relay team of Depies, Bryce Ketterhagen, Jonny Berndt and Schaefer was fifth in 4:00.34.
For the Warriors, Rice was third in the 3,200 in 10:29.98, Sam Schubert was third in the 400 in 53.93 and Matt Baldwin was third in the 800 in 2:13.86.
Shamir Garcia was fourth in the triple jump with a 36-5.5. The 3,200 relay team of Rice, Tyler Mueller, Behling and Schubert was fourth in 9:19.57.
The Rockets compete at a Sheboygan Falls invite on Friday and host a quadrangular meet on Tuesday, May 7.
The Warriors compete at a Hilbert invite on Friday and a quadrangular meet at Oostburg on Tuesday.
