Quilt museum to hold classes, workshops

A series of classes on subjects as diverse as sewing, fiber arts and confections will be held at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilting and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg in the coming weeks.

A Wednesday, Jan. 25, class on making brandy old fashioned caramels and caramel sauce will be taught by Mary Adashek.

Participants will create two goodies inspired by brandy old fashioneds

“Mini Designs for Hand-Embroidery Techniques” will be taught by Linda Sweek on Thursdays, Feb. 16 and 23 and March 2 and 9.

Those attending will complete mini embroidery pieces while learning the chain stitch, satin stitch, back stitch, fly stitch, feather stitch, stem stitch and French knots as well as several specialty stitches.

They will also work with ribbon and beads and learn how to choose threads and needles, use hoops and trace designs onto fabric.

“Architectural Abstraction” with fiber artist Pat Bishop will be taught Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18 and 19.

Participants will learn about abstract concepts and how to think abstractly with a focus on simple buildings such as barns, sheds or other basic structures.

Participants will produce a straight stitch quilting piece that’s approximately 18-by-24 inches without any free motion quilting.

The class will explore composition, foreground, background, blending the background and other methods of abstraction as well as ways to abstract inspirational photos and sketches.

A confections class on turtles, terrapins, and caramel macchiato bites will be taught by Mary Adashek on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
