Program to offer tips on handling autism

Strategies and tips for managing autism is the topic for a 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, program offered by Ozaukee Family Services.

The program will offer an introductory understanding of autism, including what it is and when to get help, as well as common intervention strategies for home, school and therapeutic environments.

These strategies include tips and tricks regarding possible school interventions, ideas for advocacy within IEPs or 504 plans, strategies to effectively navigate daily home life and recommendations for parent coping and self-care.

The session will be led by Amy Leventhal, a licensed psychologist who has been serving children and adolescents on the autism spectrum for more than 20 years.

She is the director of clinical services at Next Step Clinic, where she trains clinicians and student clinicians to diagnose autism spectrum disorder and serves families in the City of Milwaukee who have a history of barriers to healthcare services for autism.

Free limited childcare will be available during the program.
