The first swim meet of the season brought a challenging foe to Port Washington but yielded a few personal records for the girls’ high school team.
Nicolet topped the Pirates, 133 to 50.
Sophomore Abbey Lotz scored seven individual points for Port. Sophomores Josie Tetzlaff, Audyn Setzer and Emma Huber scored five each.
“The girls did a great job in their first meet of the season. They were focused on their events and looked good on the blocks,” co-head coach Danielle Peiffer said.
The Pirates tallied three second-place finishes.
Lotz was second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 44.08 seconds. Josie Tetzlaff was third in 2:46.45.
Caroline Hadacek was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:28.19. Emmalee Schmutzler was fourth in 1:38.82 and Ashley Benesen was fifth in 1:39.2.
Sophomore diver Stephanie Schlessinger was second with 155.5 points. Port’s other diver, freshman Annastasia Wischki, was fifth with 108.4 points.
Port’s best event was the 100 freestyle. Emma Huber took third in a personal record 1:04.3. Maddi Klein was fifth in 1:07 and Hadacek was sixth in a personal record 1:07.57.
Earning personal records in the first meet of the season, Peiffer said, “is a remarkable achievement.”
Klein added a personal record in the 50 freestyle, finishing third in 28.58 seconds, more than two seconds faster than her time last year. Huber was fourth in 28.83 and Kelly Ball was sixth in 31.13.
The 500 freestyle, Peiffer said, was a challenge since the girls couldn’t practice it during summer, but Setzer was third in 6:42.06, Leah Sheriff was fourth in 7:12.55 and Erin Grisar was fifth in 7:38.07.
The 200 freestyle relay of Tetzlaff, Hadacek, Huber and Lotz was third in 2:01.44.
The 200 medley relay of Tetzlaff, Hadacek, Grisar and Huber finished third in 2:19.9.
Peiffer said the 100 butterfly is always a tough event, and “our girls fought hard to finish strong.”
Lotz was third in 1:13.83 and Grisar was fifth in 1:26.43.
The 400 freestyle relay of Klein, Grisar, Setzer and Lotz was third in 4:34.86.
In the 200 freestyle, Setzer was fourth in 2:28.44. Sheriff was fifth in 2:39.54 and Ball was sixth in 2:43.45.
In the 100 backstroke, Tetzlaff was fourth in 1:19.18. Nolari Hingiss was fifth in 1:24.95 and Olivia Heinecke was sixth in 1:40.62.
“The girls executed their races well and we know improvement will come with more swimming. We look forward to seeing their progress,” Peiffer said.
Port was to host non-conference foe Kohler at 6 p.m. Tuesday and swims at North Shore Conference opponent Whitefish Bay at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.
