Port to honor coach

This Saturday’s Port Washington Invitational at Hawthorne Hills Golf Course in the Town of Saukville won’t be known by that name much longer.
At the beginning of the event, Port High golf coach Scott Kosidowski will announce that the invite is being renamed for former assistant coach Kelly Green, who died from a rare medical condition on Sept. 2. He was 58.
Mr. Green had taught at Port High for 30 years and was involved with students in basketball, cross country, track and field and wrestling. He was also a mock trial adviser.
When it came to golf, Port High Principal Eric Burke said Mr. Green could walk an 18-hole course in record time.
Mr. Green was a union leader for more than 25 years and was instrumental in selecting current superintendent Mike Weber.
Mr. Green held a bachelor’sdegree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a teaching degree from UW-Oshkosh and a master’s degree from UW-Milwaukee.
He was born Nov. 28, 1958, in Oshkosh, and lettered in track and field and wrestling in high school.
The golf invitational is scheduled to include 18 teams and begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
Kosidowski will make the name announcement before the event stars.
