Port gymnasts are improving

The Port Washington High School gymnastics team has improved its score in each of its first three competitions this season.

The Pirates began by posting 111.325 points against Homestead on Dec. 11. The Highlanders won with 128.65.

Pirate newcomer Audrey Dickson, a sophomore, led the team in all events, with an 8.15 on vault, 7.05 on bars, 7.35 on beam and 7.825 on floor, coach Gale Sigler said.

Vault was Port’s strongest event, with Elaina Makoutz scoring a 7.475 and Liz Ernest and McKenzie Rick each posting a 7.4.

The Pirates scored 112.35 points for sixth place at its first invite of the year, Dec. 14 at Homestead.

Dickson scored a 7.96 on vault and a 7.925 on floor. Caitlin Hassler had a 7.4 on beam.

On vault, Emma Bollech had a 7.8, Rick had a 7.2 and Ernest had a 7.1. Ernest had a 7.0 on beam. On floor, Rick had a 7.35, Makoutz had a 7.3 and Hassler had a 7.275.

On Dec. 17 against West Bend West, Port lost 126.5 to 114.225.

Vault was again the Pirates’ strength. Dickson had an 8.25, Bollech a 7.65, Rick a 7.6 and Makoutz a 7.4.

Dickson had a 7.075 on bars and Makoutz had a 7.0. Hassler had a 7.5 on beam and Dickson had a 7.2. Dickson posted an 8.2 on floor and Makoutz had a 7.05.

“The trend of our team score inching up each meet is encouraging and definitely something we intend on continuing as our season progresses,” Sigler said.

“The girls have all been working to add more difficulty into their routines in an effort to increase our scores even more.”

Grafton/Cedarburg on Dec. 11 lost to Hartford. Sophomore Molly Tomashek was second on vault and in the all-around. Sophomore Amanda Babcock was second on bars.

The Bullhawks took fourth place at a Manitowoc invite on Dec. 14.

Tomashek was fourth in the all-around with 33.225 points, fourth on bars with a 7.875 and fourth on floor with an 8.85. She was fifth on beam with an 8.675. Babcock was fifth on bars with a 7.85.

The Bullhawks host the Pirates on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
