Port golfers advance to Div. 1 sectional
The Port Washington High School golf team edged out its conference rival Grafton to advance to sectional competition.
The Pirates last week shot 359 at Quit Qui Oc in Elkhart Lake, taking fourth place in the Division 1 regional.
Grafton shot 370 for fifth.
“We started on the 10th tee and my players were a bit tight, and scores showed this. However, once they made the turn, they played very well. I’m very proud of how they played and hope this continues next week,” coach Scott Kosidowski said.
Antonio Feciskonin shot an 83, Max Kelly an 84, Chad Spaeth a 94, Reilly Sullivan a 98 and Nolan Mueller a 99.
For Grafton, Andrew Henning shot 89 and qualified for sectional play as an individual.
Tyler Tsui shot 91, Jaden Polack 92, and Adam Schnell and Jacob Aleknavicius each shot 98.
Sheboygan North won the meet with 306 strokes. Plymouth was second with 336, and Cedarburg was third with 342.
At the North Shore Conference meet at the Irish Course at Whistling Straits, the Pirates took fifth with 363 strokes. Grafton was eighth with 385.
Feciskonin shot 94 and made the all-conference third team with a total of 264 strokes for the season.
“It was a great experience for the entire conference to play at the Irish Course. My team was very excited to play there and enjoyed the experience,” Kosidowski said.
“Scores were high across the board, but my players are beginning to realize that they will have some bad holes but need to focus on the positives. They started to learn that process today.”
Grafton coach Phil Trottier said his golfers had much of the same experience during their first time on that course.
“It was a great experience and opportunity for our boys to play the Irish Course at Whistling Straits. We played much better on the second nine as the boys were able to relax and get used to the surroundings,” he said.
