Port finishes 6th, Grafton 8th in first NSC golf outing of season

Port Washington placed sixth and Grafton was eighth in the first North Shore Conference boys’ golf meet of the season, played Monday on the back nine at West Bend Country Club.

Whitefish Bay won the meet with 161 strokes from its top five golfers combined, with an average score of 41.4.

Port had 181 strokes (45.6 average) and Grafton 184 (47.2).

For Port, Jordan Gardipee shot 41, followed by Max Kelly at 46 and Antonio Feciskonin, Dan Barney and Chad Spaeth with 47s.

Jaden Polack led Grafton with a 43. Adam Schnell shot 45, Tyler Tsui 47, Andrew Henning 49 and Jacob Aleknavicus 52.

Last Friday, Port and Grafton tied for seventh at the Kelly Green Invitational at Hawthorne Hills in the Town of Saukville.

The former Port Washington Invitational has been renamed in memory of the Pirates’ longtime golf coach, who died Sept. 2, 2017, of a rare medical condition.

Port and Grafton each shot 440. Wauwatosa West won the meet with 393.

Polack shot 84, Henning 85, Tsui 86, Flahive 92 and Schnell 93.

Flahive scored a hole-in-one on the 215-yard, par-3 13th hole.

Feciskonin shot an 83, followed by Gardipee at 85, Spaeth at 88, Barney at 89 and Max Kelly at 95.

“I thought my Port team played well, but again, we’re missing too many short putts,” coach Scott Kosidowski said.

“Antonio Feciskonin hit the ball really well, but his putter was not working.  He could have easily been in the top 10 if he made a couple of putts. Jordan played solid and very consistently today.”

Going forward, Kosidowski said, it’s work around and on the greens that will bring down scores.

“We still need to work on the short game and believe we can play with the top teams in the North Shore Conference,” he said.

Mr. Green taught at Port High for 30 years and was involved with students in basketball, cross country, track and field and wrestling, and was a mock trial adviser.

Port and Grafton were scheduled to play Wednesday at Hartford and Monday at Fire Ridge in the Town of Grafton.
