Port farmers market to open on Saturday

Port Washington’s farmers market — one of the oldest in Ozaukee County — will kick off the summer season on Saturday, June 13.

The market is more than just a  place to buy farm fresh foods, it is also a pet-friendly community gathering place.

Like other markets, it features fresh produce and meats, herbs and flowers alongside food products such as honey, jams and jellies, pet treats and bakery.

There will also be local artisans who sell items that include natural soaps, salves and lotions, baskets and a wide variety of crafts.

Live music is also part of the attraction..

Port Washington’s market is held on East Main Street between Franklin and Wisconsin streets from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 31.

This year, the market will expand into what organizers are billing as a “mega-market” on June 27, July 25 and Aug. 29, when the footprint will expand west on Main Street.

That expanded area will become home to food trucks, music, activities and additional vendors and allow the market to have  more of a fun atmosphere, organizers said.

Other area farmers markets include:

• The Saukville market, which opens July 12, is held Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Landt-Thiel American Legion Hall, 601 W. Dekora St.

The market runs from through Oct, 25, except for July 5.

There will also be an evening market from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 23.

• The Thiensville market is held at Village Park, 250 Elm St., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays from June 16 through Oct. 13. Live music will be performed each week from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Friends of the Weyenberg Library in Mequon will hold a storytime at the market from 10:30 to 11 a.m. during the markets in June, July and August.

There will also be specialized activities, including a kayaking session on June 16, a mom’s walk at 9 a.m. on June 23 and a blood drive on June 23.

• A Cedarburg market will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, W76 N627 Wauwatosa Rd., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays, Aug. 8, 15, 22 and 29.
