A quiet Tuesday morning near St. Mary’s Church in Port Washington was shattered when the Ozaukee County Special Response Team and Counter-Drug Task Force executed a search warrant.

About 6 a.m., the Special Response Team used a public address system to ask the residents of a house at 110 E. Van Buren St. to leave the home. When no one left, the team set off a flash-bang before entering the residence, Sheriff’s Lt. DeMaine Milbach said.

“It was very loud,” Milbach said of the flash-bang. “It would have sounded like an explosion.”

The device was used to distract the residents, who authorities had been told might be armed, he said.

That, Milbach added, was one reason the Counter-Drug Task Force asked the Special Response Team to execute the knock-and-enter warrant.

“We were concerned weapons were in the house,’ he said.

The Port Washington Police Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office.

Milbach said authorities had obtained a search warrant for the single-family house based on information that the residents had marijuana, methamphetimines and heroin.

They had been told there could be as many as six people living in the home, he added.

Authorities took two men, ages 23 and 24, into custody, and Milbach said he expected charges to be filed against them by the Ozaukee County District Attorney’s Office Wednesday.

Authorities also found marijuana, methamphetamine and butane hash oil, a potent form of cannabis concentrate, as well as more than $5,000 in cash, he said.

Milbach said the investigation is continuing.
