A Port Washington man who was struck by a sport utility vehicle while riding his bike on Highway LL in the Town of Port was taken by a Flight for Life helicopter to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa last Monday.

Robert Bley, 72, suffered severe injuries in the crash, which happened about 1:40 p.m. May 17 on Highway LL north of Green Bay Road.

According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Bley was riding his bike south on the highway when a grey 2017 Jeep Compass driven by David Nash, 76, struck him from behind.

Nash, of Cedar Grove, may have suffered a medical event before the crash that caused him to deviate from his lane and strike the bike, officials said.

Highway LL was closed and traffic diverted onto Green Bay Road.

Nash was taken by Port Washington ambulance to Aurora Medical Center in Grafton for medical evaluation.

Bley was also taken by the Port Washington ambulance to the Grafton hospital, then transported to Froedtert.

Nash was cited for deviating from his designated lane, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The investigation is continuing, officials said.
