Pool party, pet parade, fireworks planned in Port
PORT WASHINGTON - A variety of activities will be held in the City of Port Washington Thursday to celebrate the Fourth of July.
A holiday pool party will be held at the Port outdoor pool from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include a variety of games, contests and food and drink specials, and those wearing red, white and blue will get in for $1.
Youngsters riding a decorated bike to the party will also get in for $1.
A patriotic summer celebration will be held by the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 and its Auxiliary beginning at noon Thursday.
The event features arts and crafts for children and families, a patriotic themed pet costume contest, a pet-and-partner parade, live music and food and beverages.
Arts and crafts will be offered from noon to 5 p.m. at the Legion Hall, 435 N. Lake St.
Live music will be performed from 2 to 5 p.m.
Food and beverages, including hot dogs and brats, treats and baked goods will be available for purchase.
Pets in costumes will be judged beginning at noon. Small animals in carriers will be judged from noon to 12:45 p.m., cats in carriers will be judged from 1 to 1:45 p.m. and dogs and other small four-legged pets on leashes from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
The animals and their owners will parade from the Legion Hall through downtown and past Fork and Tap restaurant and Cavalier Wine Bar, where they will be judged by patrons, at 2:30 p.m.
There will be a photo booth at Eclectic Avenue on Franklin Street.
A raffle and 50/50 drawing will be held as part of the event.
To cap off the day’s events, the city will host a fireworks show at dusk, with the pyrotechnics shot off from Coal Dock Park.
