Policy lets Village of Belgium go bargain shopping

The Belgium Village Board doesn’t want to miss out on a good deal by waiting for a majority of the trustees to vote during a monthly meeting.

As a result, the board this month adopted a policy that allows village staff to approve purchases of more than $5,000 by calling Village President Pete Anzia for approval.

“That’s the point of creating the whole policy, so that we don’t miss out on opportunities because it doesn’t come up when it’s available for a board meeting to approve,” treasurer Vickie Boehnlein said.

“Especially auction things,” Trustee Roseann Geib said.
