Participation up in annual Frebeka 5

Jackson man wins 5-mile race; Belgium’s Lanser takes third consecutive women’s title

Connor Doppler of Jackson won the five-mile race in the annual Frebeka 5 Family Health Challenge Events last Sunday in Waubedonia Park.

Doppler, 24, finished the course in 30 minutes, 18 seconds in the sunny weather.

The turnout was the largest in four years, with 90 participants among the five events.

Julie Lanser, 24, of Belgium, again won the female race, this time in 34:40, which was 31 seconds faster than last year and more than a minute quicker than her winning time in 2016.

Samuel Schubert, 15, of Fredonia, won the two-mile race in 12:00.

Kenna Pierson, 12, of Fredonia won the girls’ two-mile race in 15:50.

Sawyer Kowalkowski, 12, won the one-mile kids’ run in 5:53.

Kahleah Knight, 11, of Cedar Grove, won the girls’ one-mile race in 6:46.

A 2-mile walk was also held.

The events were presented by the Fredonia Lions Club. Proceeds benefit Starting Point of Ozaukee, the T-Baum Foundation, Blind Outdoor Leisure Development and Lions’ sight, hearing and diabetes projects.
