A portion of River Bend Road in the Town of Grafton will be renamed as Cheyenne Avenue starting Jan. 1.

The change in street names is due to the construction of the Blue Stem subdivision, which will be annexed into the village.

Plans show Cheyenne Avenue being extended south of Falls Road and east to Port Washington Road. The name change will occur on River Bend Road south of  Lakefield Road.

Officials said five properties will be affected with the change, but their house numbers won’t change.

“The people who live on that section of River Bend Road have been aware of the name change for a number of years,” Town Chairman Lester Bartel said.

Bartel also said the speed limit will be reduced from 35 mph to 25 mph.

The Town Board unanimously approved the name change at its Dec. 11 meeting.
