Parking lot at Pepi’s Playground is to get paved

The Belgium Village Board on Monday approved paving the parking lot of the community’s dog park.

Pepi’s Playground on Silver Beach Road near the wastewater treatment plant hasn’t had its parking lot paved since it opened years ago.

“We require parking lots to be paved,” Director of Public Works Dan Birenbaum said.

Since Ozaukee County is going to be doing paving work on Silver Beach Road, Birenbaum said it would be cheaper to have the county pave the parking lot right away. The quote he received was for $25,500.

The board agreed.

“We don’t have to pay the mobilization fee,” Trustee Chris Plier said.

Village Treasurer Vickie Boehnlein said using the village’s fund balance account to pay for the work would take the percentage from 34% to 32%. The recommendation is to keep 10% to 25%.

Village officials said the park is busy.

“That parking lot gets more (cars) than the parks in the community,” Village Wastewater Supt. Paul Bley said.
