Painter inspired by words is artist of month

Kelly Darrah, whose art takes inspiration from words and her response to them, is the September artist in-residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Darrah will demonstrate her work from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays throughout the month and teach the workshop “Imaginary Lives Expressive Painting” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29.

Darrah earned a bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a master of library and information sciences degree from UW-Milwaukee.

She worked in education for non-profit organizations and at the college level and has participated in numerous shows and exhibits during the past 10 years.
Recently, Darrah illustrated a children’s book and completed the “Artist’s Way” program.

Her current abstract body of work originated during the pandemic and is focused on a theme of individual words, a realization that she has always been inspired by the simple things.

Darrah paints in acrylic and is currently exploring mosaic as a medium using the words “inertia” and “synchronicity.”

The center at W62 N546 Washington Ave. is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 pm Sundays.
