Painter is featured artist in January
Painter Reilly McClellan is the January artist in residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.
McClellan, who lives in Cedarburg, took art classes at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha before switching his focus to accounting, a career he held for 12 years. But when the pandemic hit in 2020, he returned to art and in 2022 decided to leave the corporate world and devote his time entirely to art.
His work may be found at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, and he has exhibited at the Cedarburg Art Museum and Miller Art Museum.
McClellan will demonstrate his art from 2 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30 and 31.
He will also offer a workshop, “Painting Realistic Sunsets,” on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Students will paint a dramatic farm field sunset in a realistic style using acrylic paints on canvas. They will explore dry brush blending, utilize various strokes to achieve texture and learn how to plan for a no-stress painting experience.
Focus will be placed upon paint consistency, the amount needed and the importance of timing. McClellan will also discuss ideas about color, value, composition and how to know when to stop working on a painting.

The center is at W62 N546 Washington Ave. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
