Painter is center’s July artist of the month

Painter Judy Carlton is the July artist in residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Carlton began painting eight years ago after retiring from teaching and moving to South Carolina. Oils, then acrylics, watercolors, pen-and-ink and charcoal appealed to her, with landscapes being especially interesting to her.

She enjoys experimenting with different mediums and continues to take in-person and online classes.

Carlton teaches at the center and participates in Cedarburg Artists’ Guild events, including the local holiday art fair.

Carlton will demonstrate a variety of art forms from noon to 3 p.m. Thursdays, July 7, 14, 21 and 28.

She will also lead a workshop, “Vases ala CitraSolv,” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 23.

In the class, students will turn magazine pages into works of art using CitraSolv, which alters the colors.  Students may frame their works, paint on top of them, stencil them or cut and tear pages to make collages, cards, boxes or vases.

The workshop fee is $38 for center members and $45 for nonmembers.

For more information or to register, contact the center at 375-3676 or visit www.CedarburgCulturalCenter.org and click on the Visual Arts and Adult/Teen Classes drop-down tab.

Masks are recommended but not required for participants and instructors.

The center is at W62 N546 Washington Ave.
