PAID OBITUARY: Doris Goemer Olson

Doris Goemer Olson, formerly of Saukville, passed to eternal life on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018.

She was born in Milwaukee in 1924, and her family moved to Saukville early in her childhood.  She graduated from Port Washington High School in 1943.

Doris met Kenneth Olson while they both worked at Saukville Canning Co. After Ken returned from serving in World War II, Doris and Ken were married in June 1945 at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Saukville.

Ken’s job took them to southern Illinois, where they raised two sons.  Doris was very active in the community and in her church. She was the first female elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon, Ill.

Ken and Doris moved to Mebane, N.C., where Ken became founding managing director of a manufacturing company and Doris continued her involvement with her new church, once again as an elder.

After Ken’s death in 2016, Doris returned to Wisconsin where she resided at The Cottages, a unit of Cedar Community in West Bend.  

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Norma Goemer; husband Kenneth Olson; sister Myrtle Demerath; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and one niece.  

She is survived by two sons, Darrell (Janice) of Grafton and Jon (Annette) of Saratoga, Calif.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three nieces.

A memorial service will be held at Parkside Community Church of Christ (formerly St. Peter’s) in Saukville at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12.

The family would like to thank the staff of Neighborhood #3 at The Cottages and the Cedar Community Hospice team for their great care.
