Ozaukee scores despite a small lineup

Spring break hurt the Ozaukee High School track and field teams in Oshkosh last week, but a few Warriors continue to stand out early in the season.

The girls scored 40 points and finished seventh of 15 teams at the Pam Kjono Invite on Friday.

De Pere won with 96 points, followed by Kimberly’s 90, Manitowoc Lincoln’s 84, Two Rivers’ 77, Sheboygan Falls’ 46 and Manitowoc Lutheran’s 43.

“Our girls did a great job competing against tough competition, especially with a limited roster due to our spring break,” coach Andrew Pfeuffer said.

“We had many great performances across the board, and they didn’t back down from facing many Division 1 and Division 2 schools.

Adeline Utecht was second in shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 5.75 inches, a personal record.

“She is off to a great start and is really stepping into her leadership role on our team. I’m excited to see how she continues to progress as we head into our outdoor season,” Pfeuffer said.

Clara McKee was third in the 1,600-meter run in 6 minutes, 5.58 seconds and in the 3,200 in 13:24.69.

Hannah Bustamante was fourth in the high jump by clearing 4-8.

Becky Hoffmann was fourth in the 400 in 1:10.63 and sixth in the 55 hurdles in 10.25.

Morgan Kirmse was fifth in shot put with 32-7.25.

Addison Schubert was sixth in the 1,600 in 6:17.91.

McKee wins the 3,200 again

Calvin McKee won the 3,200 for the second straight time in as many races this season, helping the Warrior boys to 22 points, good for 11th of 15 teams at the Earl Hebert Invite last Thursday.

McKee won the race in 10:34.55, a personal record and nearly nine seconds ahead of the next-fastest runner.

“Calvin McKee has had two great meets in a row and is showing  a lot of growth in his racing strategies from last year. He looks strong and is really showing some high level understanding of racing to start the year,” Pfeuffer said.

Kaukana won the meet with 80 points. De Pere had 76, Sheboygan Falls had 72 and Two Rivers had 71.

The Warriors’ 3,200 relay of Tyler Mueller, Aaron Nehls, Riley Borchardt and McKee was second in 9:12.04, five seconds out of first.

Mueller was fifth in the 1,600 in 4:58.92.

“Tyler Mueller is also off to a fast start, including a new personal record and breaking five minutes in the mile for the first time in his career,” Pfeuffer said.

The doors come off for the Warriors as both teams compete in their first outdoor meet at Kohler against four other teams on Tuesday, April 5.

On Thursday, April 7, the Warriors compete in a quadrangular at Hilbert.
