Ozaukee nets new leaders to coach volleyball team

A couple of Ozaukee High School alumni have taken over the volleyball program.

Samantha Kroeger and Amanda Dieringer are teaming up to coach the Warriors.

Kroeger played setter and libero at Ozaukee, and Dieringer was a setter and right-side hitter.

Both came to lead the sport they love at their old school. Kroeger moved back home from Iowa State University and wanted to get involved in volleyball.

“I love the competitive nature and how much fun you can have,” she said. “I love helping these girls love the sport I do, as well as grow their skills.”

Dieringer said she missed her favorite sport.

“I really enjoy the feeling of teamwork and execution to accomplish something great,” she said. “Watching girls come together not only as teammates, but as a volleyball family.”

Dieringer has helped with middle school volleyball. Kroeger doesn’t have any coaching experience.

Kroeger may see her players throughout the day. She is a guidance assistant at Ozaukee High. Dieringer works at Sandy Loam Dairy Farm.

The team’s top outside hitters are Evy Geis and Delaney Bares. Paige Kurlinski is in the middle, and Izzy Decker is a right-side hitter. Caitlyn Weyker is the setter in the 5-1 offense, and Madie Prom is libero.

“We’ve come a long way. Our team is fairly new, we have three seniors and only four returning varsity players so a few of the girls are still trying to get used to the change of pace,” Dieringer said.

Ozaukee, 0-2 in the Big East Conference, hosted Howards Grove on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The Warriors play in a Port Washington tournament on Saturday.
