The Ozaukee High School girls’ basketball team climbed to 10-3 overall and 8-3 in the Big East Conference with a pair of victories last week.

On Jan. 14, the Warriors posted their highest offensive output of the season in an 82-55 win over visiting Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah.

Last Thursday, Ozaukee earned a 45-37 win at Hilbert.

Ozaukee coach Tim Wolff said that the match against Elkhart Lake was a “very free-flowing game” in which “there were not a lot of whistles blown,” he said.

Despite a physical game, the Warriors were able to find the basket often.

“We shot extremely well,” Wolff said.

The Warriors went 19-for-34 from two-point range and 13-for-21 behind the arc.

Gabby Klas drained five three-pointers and Greta Klas made four.

“We moved the ball well. They tried a lot of different defenses on us and none of them seemed to really work,” Wolff said.

“The girls executed well. We played really good man-to-man defense. Elkhart Lake has several girls that can shoot.”

Gabby Klas led all scorers with 23 points. Becca Schauer had 19 points and nine assists. Greta Klas had 14 points.

Emma Poeschl had her best offensive game of the season with nine points.

Ella Feldman led the Resorters with 16 points. Alex Schneider had 14 and Lexi and Kat Miller each had eight points.

It was a much tougher go at Hilbert, but the Warriors came away with another win.

“It was more of a grind-out game,” Wolff said. “We didn’t shoot well.”

Although the Warriors shot just better than 50% from two-point range, the usually reliable long game was missing. They went 3-for-19 on three-pointers.

Schauer led the Warriors with 19 points, seven assists and five steals.

“Becca had a phenomenal game handling the ball,” Wolff said.

Gabby Klas had 10 points and five rebounds.

“It is not always easy to win on the road, especially after such a long bus trip,” Wolff said.

Laney Halbach led the Wolves with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The Warriors were to host Sheboygan Lutheran Tuesday and play at Cedar Grove-Belgium on Friday.
