Four players scoring in double digits led the Ozaukee High School girls’ basketball team to its highest offensive output of the season in a win over host Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian last Thursday, 81-72.

“Sheboygan Lutheran’s record does not reflect the capabilities that team has this year,” Ozaukee coach Jason Pollard said.

“I knew after our first game, that it was going to be a competitive and back-and-forth game. I have felt this year that we always seem to get teams that have a great game or a couple of players who can’t seem to miss. This game was no exception.”

Pollard was also aware of the Crusaders’ strategy.

“We knew that they would come out and try to shut down Gabby Klas, who had a big game against them the first time around,” he said.

In December, Klas scored 32 points in a 67-58 win.

This time, Klas poured in 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She shot 10-for-14 from two-point range and benefited from the strong offense of her teammates.

“We were very fortunate to have several other players scoring — Cami (Miller), Caitlyn (Weyker) and Sophie (Uhlenberg) — that they could not just focus on Gabby,” Pollard said.

“Cami had a season-high 18 points and is starting to show some things offensively on the court that she has been doing in practice.”

She also pulled down eight rebounds.

Weyker scored 13 points and dished out five assists.

Uhlenberg scored 11 points in returning from a finger injury, and Natalie Miller scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.

“It was a quality team win. It was the first game we had Sophie back, and she seems to add another dimension to the team with her quickness and basketball I.Q.,” Pollard said.

The Crusaders were led by Rose Hahn with 29 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Alex Stricker had 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Ozaukee’s offensive firepower didn’t last long as the Warriors were routed, 71-30, by visiting Mishicot last Saturday.

The game was decided by halftime, when Mishicot led, 41-15.

“This was going to be another physical battle with a quality team,” Pollard said.

“We had watched some film on them and expected they were going to come out aggressive on defense. I thought we held our ground for the first few minutes of the game as the score remained close.

“This was one of the games where the depth of the team and numbers for the program helps. Our girls never gave up and fought for 36 minutes, and I would not expect anything less from them.”

Natalie Miller scored 10 points and had eight rebounds. Klas scored eight points and seven rebounds. Miller had seven rebounds.

The Warriors are 8-9 overall and 3-4 in the Big East Conference South Division.

Ozaukee’s road game at Cedar Grove-Belgium on Tuesday was postponed due to snow. The Warriors are to host Random Lake (6-1 Big East) Friday and host Kohler (1-5) on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
