OZAUKEE COUNTY RESPONSE TO SUPREME COURT DECISION ON SAFER AT HOME ORDER EXTENSION

Port Washington, WI, May 14, 2020 – Today Ozaukee County begins the first full day of life now that the Safer at Home Order has ended and the transaction of business countywide begins. A conscientious effort is more important than ever as our county businesses balance a restart to the economic recovery so many are seeking with the need to continue to protect the safety and health of all citizens.

Under the direction of the County Board Chair and County Administrator, the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department will issue no countywide orders limiting the public or businesses at this time in response to the current status of the COVID‐19 pandemic in the county. The department will address any localized COVID‐19 outbreaks on an individual basis under local jurisdiction provided by §252.03(2) of the Wisconsin Statutes. Should countywide infections, outbreaks, and deaths due to the pandemic change significantly from the current trajectory, Ozaukee County and the Washington Ozaukee PublicHealth Department will respond appropriately.

The county still asks every citizen for diligence to ensure their own personal safety, the safety of theirfamilies, and all fellow citizens. The COVID‐19 pandemic remains a significant threat to public healthand all Ozaukee County citizens should follow the social distancing and safety protocols established bythe CDC and the recommendations of the Washington Ozaukee Public Health Department in an effortto slow the spread of COVID‐19.
