Ozaukee County voters pick Kelly, Karofsky in state court primary

Like voters statewide, Ozaukee County electors on Tuesday overwhelmingly cast their ballots for Daniel Kelly and Jill Karofsky in the Wisconsin State Supreme Court primary.

Dropping off the ballot was Ed Fallone.

Kelly received 9,327 votes, or 63.63% of the votes cast, in Ozaukee County while Karofsky received 3,911 votes, or 26.68%.

Fallone received 1,403 votes, or 9.57%.

Statewide, Kelly is reported to have received 50% of the vote compared to 37% for Karofsky and 13% for Fallone.

Kelly and Karofsky will face off in the April 7 general election with the winner claiming a 10-year term on the court.

Although the race is a nonpartisan one, Kelly, who was appointed to the court in 2016 by former Gov. Scott Walker, is supported in large part by conservatives and Karofsky,  a Dane County Circuit Court judge, by liberals.

Turnout was expected to be between 20% and 30%, and in Ozaukee County that was the case with roughly 24.6% of voters casting ballots Tuesday.
