Ozaukee, CG-B soccer lose in playoffs

Seasons came to a close last Thursday for the Ozaukee and Cedar Grove-Belgium High School boys’ soccer teams in rematches against the same opponents from the week before.

No. 6-seeded Ozaukee lost at No. 3-seeded Kohler, 7-0, in the Division 3 tournament, one week after hanging with the Blue Bombers in a 3-1 road loss.

The Warriors were missing senior midfielder Simon Bares due to contact tracing.

“Chase Miller and Jesse Schauer stepped up to help work the midfield,” coach Josh Wood said. “Izayah Malave and Adam Pintor showed real progress on the outside filling in.”

The game started an hour late due to a thunderstorm, Wood said.

“Ozaukee just couldn’t get started. Down a senior with only two subs made it very difficult to keep up,” he said.

“The boys stayed in the whole game and had several good pressures and shots on goal.”

Ozaukee finished the season 1-9, earning its first Big East Conference victory in two years, a 7-2 win over Cedar Grove-Belgium on Sept. 22.

No. 7-seeded Cedar Grove-Belgium lost, 7-0, at Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran, one week after losing 10-0 to the same team on the road.

The Rockets were in the game at halftime, down, 1-0.

“We set up as defensive as possible. That paid dividends,” coach Elias Garza said.

Ten minutes into the second half, the Rockets lost a key defensive player to injury for 15 minutes.

“This affected our morale and defensive capabilities, which lead to some quick goals by Sheboygan Christian,” Garza said.

“Despite the final result, it was a great team effort. Guys really had it locked in defensively but we simply could not sustain it. Dylan Teunissen, Will Lautenschlager, Calvin Lutzke were major contributors, while Aiden

Filtz chipped in with some fine play in goal, including one highlight-reel save that resulted in some complimentary words from the officials.”

The Rockets finished the season 0-10.

Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran went on to beat Kohler, 3-0, and plays at No. 1-seeded Oostburg, which beat Random Lake, 5-2, on Thursday.
